Scripture

For us as believers, Lent is a time of reflection, repentance, and anticipation. It is also a time to revisit our experience as people of and created by God. Out of the humble dust of creation to the magnificent glory of Jesus’ resurrection, we are reminded that our relationship with our Father God is as “old as dirt.” From Adam to Jesus, scripture describes how God’s creation has been unfolding for thousands of years. If we’re willing to make an inward trip of the soul during this Lenten season, we can again symbolically travel that path from creation to salvation as the next 40 days unfold.

The first step of the journey is to realize that although each of us is a sinful and common human being, we are special to God. Why? It is because we are really composed of two things: the basic earthly elements that God used to form us and the divine breath - His spark of life - infusing us wholly and holy in God’s image.

Each time we confess our sins and repent of them, we turn around from our common-ness, and we begin to live out God’s potential within us, becoming expressions of the divine will. Each time we watch, as Jesus asked the disciples to do in the Garden of Gethsemane, we observe again what Christ sacrificed in order to remove the power of sin and death from our lives. Each time we pray, we reconnect with the beginning of all creation, trusting in God’s plan, naming others before Him, and committing our spirit of faith fully to His purposes. Each time we love, we demonstrate our understanding of our own role in God’s creation, and participate in bringing about His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

Come to worship God each week. Come to fellowship and fun with those whom God has placed around you as travelers on this faith journey. Come to study the Holy Scriptures and discuss their meanings for your life. Come and rediscover the extraordinary, supernatural, mysterious power and love of God. Come.
